looks like my linux firewall decided that 171.64.65.56 was a threat and blocked it.

You can give this a shot too. It takes care of the loopback and arguments and runs under VMWare. ...and it makes nice backups so you shouldn't lose too many WUs while working out the kinks.

With the new v6 SMP Linux client, it requires the -smp flag, or otherwise the client simply runs a single CPU work unit instead of a 4x SMP work unit.

And most of these errors seem to be at the end ...

I'm using V6, the 0x12 error issue has been an off and on issue with V5 and continues to be so with V6 :(
My first run would not start with ./fah6 -smp but did with just ./fah6.

UPDATE:

Just today found new Multi-GPU console client version 6, replaced old .exe with this, added the "-gpu 0" flag to run on the first GFX card and voila! It seems to be running fine ...

An FYI update.
The 0x12 communications error is still haunting me :(
Not a clue as to the issue and still searching for a cure to my folding error.

They are not done releasing all of the new features of the v6 clients, so the change log is not complete. The initial changes ARE listed in the same FAQ from where you found that quote. ;)

You can also factor in the cost of disruptions/upgrades.

Prices being equal to add a GPU to a P4, or build a new quad, I would add the gpu. Quick and easy. And I don't even have to turn off the C ...
