News We're switching over the url for our main page http://folding.stanford.edu to point to the new web page. It's possible that the folding.stanford.edu alias will not work for a while during the switch over.

You can still find the old page at http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding and the new page at http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/cgi-bin while the folding.stanford.edu address is out.

Hi Vijay,

On a different note.

Could you ask your web designer to remove the borders on the two images (links) with borders on the front page. They arent required, and make it look a little messy. Without them it would look a little more seamless. Apart from that, its looking great.

:)

Thanks.

Hehe, it is indeed...

Obviously not :-)

I run virus, malware, spybot check on my system every day and
haven't noticed anything.

I run the 5.03 GUI client and it does not have that option.

Ok, just discovered what went wrong :-) In prefs/advanced I've used
the option to recieve packets without deadlines because my machine
is only turned on 6-7 hours a day. Switched that back to "no preference"
again, and it works perfect now :-)

Sorry about that :-/
.

No problem !

This is part of the learning curve :)
( there are no more Wu's without deadline )

On the other hand; the -verbosity switch works on all clients. You just need to add that (or another) switch in the shortcut you use to start FaH.
( read up on it in the FAQ's )

from what I 've checked, that server ( 171.64.122.133 ) is OK, full & accepting and reachable ( port 8080 checked = returns "OK" ) ...
this is a work server !

If you system and software + client is OK, you should get work.

Please post the last connection attempts from your fahlog.txt here ...

that should tell us more of what 's happening.

For more detailed logs, use the -verbosity 9
switch (every time) you start the client !

EDIT: all assignment servers are OK too ...

I wonder if this could be reason why my folding client is unable to fetch new work. It is connected to ip 171.64.122.133 but not to work server.

I think there's something getting mixed up here on the client side -- are you sure you put the right url in the browser? The Stanford proxy is *only* for the web page, not for the servers.

On new installs or CD only machines after a reboot they need to download the client. :)

It's actually a great way for people without Linux skills to get machines folding with basically no effort. I'd love to see Stanford offer a downloadable CD ISO. I use it on new machines so I don't need a HD or techincally even a CD since it installs itself onto a USB stick automatically if present on boot. Makes for a nice quiet, energy friendly setup.

As a bonus money saved on HD and OS can be used toward CPU ;)

I agree, if the old link is no longer valid, it should be removed.

Fri 12 Oct, 2007 20:18 by theMASS

Here's what I got this morning:

Connecting to folding.stanford.edu[171.67.22.50]:80
wget: server returned error 404 Not Found
tar: FAH6.00beta1-Linux.tgz: No such file or directory

Being one of the Linux "NOOBS" I'll leave it to Mike and notfred (in my case) to figure it out Until then I'll enjoy my lowered electricity usage ;)

Link is being updated for the script I was refering to
again not a big deal just pointing it out ;)
