Folding-community.org - Welcome to the forums. Please register to post.

Welcome to the Folding Community site/forum. We are independant of Pandegroup - a team lead by Vijay Pande of Stanford University - but work closely together with them to give [email protected] users and Pandegroup a means of communication.

Together with the members of this site, many improvements in the client have been made possible.

We aim to provide a good place to visit for ANY folder, regardless of team. We are working on providing you with good FAQ/KB articles in the near future, and we already have a place for 3rd party developers to provide their tools, stats and many other useful utilities.

Welcome to the site, where the admins/mods/Pandegroup are here to try to make your folding experience a better one :)

Catalyst 7.9 compatible with GPU client Reply to this News Item Print this Topic E-Mail this Topic

Announcements The new Catalyst drivers released 2007/09/10, version 7.9 (8.411) appear to work successfully with the GPU client.

ATI seems to have resolved the issues that appeared early on during GPU fahcore development, and their new driver releases all work with the GPU [email protected] client. Given this fact, it is fairly safe to assume that any new driver releases will also work, and these posts are not as urgently required as they once were. I will however continue to maintain these driver release posts for reference, and to alert you to any potential problems.

The clients will work as expected with the new drivers.

The new HD2X00 cards are not yet supported by the GPU client and this will only be resolved by a new GPU client.

On some single GPU systems you will have to force the card detection by using the -gpu 0 flag.

It is recommended that when you start the GPU client (console or GUI versions) you watch the temperatures and current draws using ATItool or ATI Tray Tools to confirm that processing has actually begun on the GPU itself.

In order to guarantee that the GPU will initialise, the GUI window should be closed when starting the client.

Folding performance appears to be similar to 7.8. Many reports claim that the best performance is achieved with the v6.11 drivers (if your card is supported)

The following versions of Catalyst are known to work with the GPU client:
  • 6.5
  • 6.10 - 6.11
  • 7.2 - 7.9
The GPU client will work with these drivers with a significant performance hit:
  • 6.6
  • 6.7
The following drivers do not work at all with the GPU client:
  • 6.8
  • 6.9
  • 6.12
  • 7.1

Tested with X1900XT 256 on Windows XP 32bit

Announcements Updated again Aug 31, 2007: Some changes have been made and some people who were blocked previously have been able to login. If you have been unable to log on due to this "white-screen" problem, try the forum again and if it still fails, notify someone who can let us know. If you CAN get on, no notification is necessary -- and welcome back. -b

It appears that the database driving the forum software is having a few problems with its tracking of sessions.

If you are currently browsing as a guest, be that as a new user, or a registered one, it is quite likely that you cannot login at present.

Before you login, please read the following so you can restore your ability to browse the forum if your login fails.

If you do try and login you will most likely be presented by a blank page, and any subsequent visits to pages on this forum will cause the same thing to happen.
If this happens to you, you need to delete the session_id cookie for forum.folding-community.org, the name of the cookie is phpbb2fah_sid, then restart your browser to make sure.

As long as you remain as a guest user, you will still be able to browse the forums, and you can track the progress of this problem in this thread: http://forum.folding-community.org/viewtopic.php?t=20820

Users who have set their profile to "Remember me" should not be affected by this problem and can post as normal.

Edit: It appears that the above statement is not entirely accurate. Many people have not been able to login even if they were set to have a permanent cookie, and others can login even if they don't have this setting enabled. So far there doesn't seem to be any discernible pattern to determine who can still login. However, if you can login once, you will probably still be able to do so with subsequent attempts.

For those who find they cannot login, there is a discussion going on here: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18799237-forumfoldingcommunityorg in which several FCF mods are also taking part.

It might be useful if members who can see this post, repost it in their home forums, just to let people know whats going on.

News We've noticed a problem with the stats update today and we're working to resolve the problem. It's Saturday, so we have a lighter workforce around, so it may wait until Monday (but I think we can get it done before then).

Related pages (eg serverstats pages) have also been affected, but they should be fixed automatically on their next update.

News The previous Linux client expires July 1; a new console client is now available from the download page. Please update your clients.

This client contains no substantial changes from the previous client. A client with more changes is currently in testing but not ready for release.

Thanks!

(An updated OSX/SMP client is also available; please see relevant post. A similar client for Windows/SMP will be posted shortly.)

Bad !  Server downtime explanation Reply to this News Item Print this Topic E-Mail this Topic
Posted on Fri 22 Jun, 2007 19:45 by WW
Announcements Hi All,

Well that was a bit of a shock. Suddenly my tables were no longer there and the database was! Five of the databases I have, including offline backups of the site, went missing during a datacenter move at my hosting company.

Sincerest apologies for the downtime, it took 24 hours to get a backup dump file put back on my server to allow me to restore it.

I will add additional backup facilities and have made it clear I was not impressed to the hosting company. It has not happened before but of course the site was down for a pretty long time, which is not ideal.

Fortunately I was back in the UK for a little while to allow me to get it back up.

I hope no posts have gone missing, however it is my impression a scripting error for the database server move (that I was not notified of) had wiped all tables by it not getting cloned across.

Thanks for your understanding on this matter,

WW
