phpBB3 Support - Welcome to the forums. Please register to post.

Welcome to the Folding Community site/forum. We are independant of Pandegroup - a team lead by Vijay Pande of Stanford University - but work closely together with them to give [email protected] users and Pandegroup a means of communication.

Together with the members of this site, many improvements in the client have been made possible.

We aim to provide a good place to visit for ANY folder, regardless of team. We are working on providing you with good FAQ/KB articles in the near future, and we already have a place for 3rd party developers to provide their tools, stats and many other useful utilities.

Welcome to the site, where the admins/mods/Pandegroup are here to try to make your folding experience a better one :)

No deadlineless Work Units Reply to this News Item Print this Topic E-Mail this Topic

Network Status Currently the scientific research being carried out at Stanford means that deadlineless WUs are not required and are not being distributed.

Anyone who has set "Receive WUs with no deadlines" to YES in their client configurations will be affected by this issue.

  • If your machines are capable of meeting deadlines, then you will need to reconfigure your clients to receive normal WUs. Once this alteration has been made to your configuration your client will continue as normal and download work from one of the many other servers.
  • If your machine is incapable of meeting deadlines, it is suggested that if the machine is a dedicated folder, that you just switch it off, and wait until more deadlineless WUs are made available.
  • If you download deadlineless WU for batching, or sneakernetting, you can do either of the above choices. Changing to normal WUs will mean more frequent moving of WUs between computers though.

The servers affected are, and
Generally these servers are kept in working order, which means that if you still have uncompleted WUs that can still be returned, the servers should accept them and you will still receive credit for them.

Security Unfortunately it's that time again where some sites have been taken over by another version of the highlight exploit.

You may have noticed this site is not running the very latest phpBB version at this exact point in time, but it has additional protection against the highlight exploit already installed.

I received a few emails from members here (thanks) basically letting me know the site was virtually unavailable for/to them during yesterday.

My sincere apologies for this. Having looked at the security logs, it seems a couple of new hosts have been compromised and are being used to try and use the highlight exploit once again. I believe the reason for the site slowing down this dramatically is due to the incredible volume of log-entries the server is writing to it's disc.

The site will be upgraded in the near future but there is not a great deal I can do about the amount of traffic we're being hit by at this stage. Will have a tweak with some values on the server to see if I can improve matters in the meantime.

You may remember we've had this problem before, this time we should not need a password-dialog however :)

Announcements Just a little FYI -

The forum signature size has been upped to 512 characters. This was done to allow for sometimes very long URLs and so forth.

Please use common sense in keeping signatures to a reasonable size, not everyone has a fast connection :)

I am aware of the stats images issue which is caused by file extentions not being allowed as images. This may one day get fixed, but it's NOT a top priority at the moment unfortunately. Just want to be upfront about that ;)

If someone knows how to easily enable this to work please drop a post in the forum improvements forum (PMs tend to cause my inbox to overfill very, very rapidly and others may wish to comment on posts).

Second change was made to the email this forum sends out - it used to be BCC in many cases, but I have made modifications to use 'TO' at all times now. This should prevent triggering spam filters as much as they appear to now.

I hope you like the changes, they are minimal but I'm hoping it will have a positive impact :D
